Why not leave a review of Pauls cafe bar.

Yesterday I visited Paul’s and was quite shocked at the standard of service and cleanliness. The member of staff who took my money (and other people’s and was clearing tables)picked up a scone with her hands (no tongs)and took it to the kitchen area.I was then served the scone without butter and asked for some. 7 minutes later I still didn’t have butter, but this gave me ample time to look at my food. The salad leaves were slimy and one large piece can only be described as rotten. The scone was solid when I cut it, (although I already felt disinclined to eat it).The staff seemed busy although only the courtyard was full, less than half the tables inside were taken. The staff can only be described as off-hand to myself and 2 other very elderly customers. There were no pleasantries such as ‘please and thank you’ and when I asked for my money back it was thrust into my hand with out an apology. What a shame! I always make a small detour to Paul’s when I’m in the Margate area and when I have more time have enjoyed a more substantial meal there. Given that there are other similar cafes locally, your customers will start looking for the service and food hygiene that consumers demand.
I know I shall.
In response to Ms Atmore’s post , I was quite shocked myself to find out through a website that one of my customers was treated in this manner ,by a member of my staff and cannot apologise enough . My staff have all been trained in hygiene and customer service by myself (of which I have extensive Knowledge), there is nothing more important to us at Paul’s.
We only use fresh produce every day and had this plate been brought to my attention on it’s way out of my kitchen It would have never have been given out, as with the comment about the staff being too busy! at times we get very busy with a full garden and half full restaurant that would probably be about 50 covers and to serve that many people in one sitting is a challenge for most restaurants . As a consequence we have longer waiting times. More staff would remedy this but the cost of such would be passed on to the customer and I’m sure my customers would like me to keep my very reasonable prices. I am afraid that even the top restaurants have had the odd bad plate go out to a customer that is just the one that slipped through the net. As you have said you have visited us before and I hope on these occasions you have had nothing to be dissatisfied about and I hope should this episode not have put you off that we continue to live up to a reputation that we have been striving to for the past 5 odd years.
Sally,
I am saddened to hear your comments on pauls bar. I am writing as a witness to the event in question, and feel obliged to state the other side of the story. I find both paul and his staff friendly and welcoming, but I must say that the manner in which you expressed your dissatisfaction was rude and demeaning. Frankly, if I had been spoken to in such a way, you would have been
asked to leave immediately without your refund!
I have visited pauls bar on three occasions taking notes and audio and video footage as part of my job as a critic for an international catering magazine. The standard at pauls bar is generally poor. The waiting staff are not suited to their positions and have no natural flair or ways of service. They send out very negative vibes concerning their work which is after all to serve with politeness and enthusiasm. The hygiene evident at pauls need urgent attention and the food served is bland and just plain forgettable. The menu is quite inappropiate and puzzling. As an american I found no hospitality or even a welcoming atmostphere.I could not recommend pauls bar to the many readers who regularly visit the kent county unfortunately as it is clear that the bar has a very slack attitude to customer satisfaction and staff who are negligent and morose in their work.
im replying to mr food critic above, i have also visited pauls cafe a number of times and have always felt the warm welcome by the staff rush towards me.They are always very helpful and hands on when i needed them for assistance, since the bar has opened it has helped no end i have always enjoyed my visits.I have never experienced a bad meal at any time,i feel its value for money i feel that you need to be in a different career trainspotting maybe ……..
I think that the staff at Pauls Bar are lovely girls and have been nothing but welcoming and are clearly hard working.
