Press release from Sainsburys

I have today been sent a new press release from Sainsburys regarding the proposed new store.
it reads as follows

Sainsbury’s submit plans for a new store in Westgate-on-Sea

After consulting with the local community and meeting with stakeholder groups, Sainsbury’s proposals for a new supermarket on the former Hundreds Farm site on Canterbury Road in Westgate-on-Sea have moved a step closer with the submission of a planning application to Thanet District Council (on Wednesday 14 March).

Over 200 people visited the public exhibition and the project website attracted over 600 visits. Over 300 submissions were received and 55.3% of those who responded to the consultation indicated their support and 38.6% indicated their opposition. A small percentage (6.0%) did not express a view*.

A new Sainsbury’s on Canterbury Road would provide a wide enough range of products to satisfy a main weekly food shopping trip. The proposals also include the installation of a new all movements signal controlled junction, pedestrian and disabled access, around 90 parking spaces and the new store could create up to as many as 150 full and part-time employment opportunities.

Sainsbury’s regional development surveyor, Mike van den Berg said “We are excited to be submitting our application for a new store in Westgate-on-Sea. We believe that the new store would improve main food shopping choice locally, create new jobs and provide an alternative for people who currently travel outside the area to visit a supermarket.”

For further information on the proposals, local residents are encouraged to visit www.sainsburys-westgateonsea.co.uk, or contact Sainsbury’s community information line on 0845 602 1151, or email sainsburyswestgateonsea@gka.co.uk.
